Benefits Britain
Been watching few of these and a some observations.

Why is it that people on benefits (well just about all those featured) can smoke heavily, have big flat screen TV’s, Laptop computers and smart phones?

Why are no immigrants featured, I thought they were all coming to Britain to get the benefits, is this Channel 4 (think its 4?) not wanting to be accused of Racism etc, so they only show white English people?

All in all it portrays the UK as a very depressing place to live and some of the excuses for not working are unbelievable, and the anger and frustration these people show at the amount they receive or if its late or cut for some reason is equally unbelievable, one woman gets very angry as she feels pensioners get too much, “all they do is spend it all on bingo, so what if they have worked all there lives, its not fair at all” FMOB

Is that a prerequisite for having an opinion/suggestion for improvement?

There are many sectors of society that I have no direct interface with but about which still feel able to hold opinions and offer up ideas for change to be discussed.

Do YOU have an opinion on child molesting? If so, by such logic suggested in your reply, YOU must have been a child molester to be able to hold a view.

Well?

Debs the landlord doesn't hold the deposit any more it's held by an Independant party by law and If the landlord has any reason not to repay the deposit it's has to go through a time consuming process, in saying that I'm sure unscrupulous landlords still get round it somehow

Re: Benefits Britain
Not always that easy is it esp if the landlord gets shitty with guving you back your deposit, but Penners that misses the point. People acting effectuvely as slumlords are breaking the law and should be brought to book.

I spent some time working in some absolute fucking shitholes in Australia. Some of the suburbs there were crack head central, full of soapy cunts who didn't look like they knew what a days work was. It seems to get overlooked there, for whatever reason.

Rent could be held in escrow, released to the landlord on the due date through a suitable notification from the renter. The landlord will know the money's there waiting for him so long as he delivers as agreed, and the renter can't use it for any other purpose.

Next.

Re: Benefits Britain
The only issue with paying the landlord directly is that the option to with hold rent from a landlord who is not keeping to the contract.

The renter leverage is gone.

Re: Benefits Britain
p.s. before people srart jumping down mybthroat i am not suggesting all landlords are like that, in the same way that most on benefits would evade paying rent.

Re: Benefits Britain
Also mental when landlords aee getting paid taxpayers money to have people living in squalor.

Newham has the highest number of landlords taken to court each year for the awful and dangerous conditions they have their tennants living in.

I think paying landlords directly would be a good idea, has the potential to protect both parties.

Re: Benefits Britain
Its mental when you see these programmes where the scumbags have spent the rent money and then moan when they get booted out. Coming out with shit like "my landlord is kicking a family out onto the street!". No love, you've done that.

Re: Benefits Britain
The biggest earners from this are the landlords, who get a huge percentage of welfare payments.

IMO These are the ones who should be taxed heavily

why the fuck do people on benefits get rent money paid into their account? it should go directly to the landlord who in the govt came up with that great idea ? i just can't believe how thick our govt are with all these decisions or is it deliberate to keep a third of the country relying on them so they always get voted back in.

Why do they get any money ? they should receive food stamps and energy stamps to cover the essentials. If they earn money for the under 16 hours then that can then be used to get other items.

its not bloody difficult take us out of the EU things will begin to change as currently the full time working tax payer is the mug in this country

Re: Benefits Britain

Unless you're seen her entitlement letter or the information she's provided to the benefit office, there's simply no way you could know.

Either the info you have provided is incorrect or she is committing benefit fraud. Either way, I'd be interested to see the breakdown.

You are right in saying it's the benefit office's responsibility to know what income a claimat declares however the same goes for HMRC when administering tax. Benefit claimants can be economical with the truth when making a claim in the same way that people putting in their tax returns can be.

I'm not for one second excusing either practice but it's hardly an easy thing to police. Unless of course you massively increase the number of staff who investigate this sort of thing.
